Bike Riding

Experience the world heritage Kanangra Boyd National Park, Jenolan Caves and some of the most spectacular cycling country Australia has to offer.

Sweeping hill tracks, meandering paths through native and pine forest, quiet country roads and more challenging routes encompass the area. The wide variety of tracks and trails is nearly 1,200 metres above sea level and, combined with fresh country air, Oberon has what you're looking for.

Oberon and the surrounding villages offer a great range of accommodation, dining and other recreational activities and facilities to meet your cycling needs.

You don't have to be a champion cyclist: you just need to ride a bike, have some fun and - enjoy the great outdoors!

Oberon to Hazelgrove Rail Trail

Oberon to Hazelgrove Rail Trail (nearing completion)

This trail, a walking/cycling trail alongside a heritage rail line under restoration, currently meanders through the undulating farmlands of the Oberon tableland between Oberon Station (now a museum) and the former station of Hazelgrove.

This 5km section is part of a 24km branch line that climbs up from the main western railway at Tarana to Oberon, 1100m above sea level. It was opened in 1923 and ceased operation in 1979. Due to the steep grades and numerous curves it was reportedly infamous for being the slowest railway line in NSW!  The council is well advanced in the planning and construction of additional cycle ways around the town including a 20km cycling\walking loop which connects to Hazelgrove Station and through the Blenham Forest and back to Oberon via Hazelgrove Road.  The loop is due to be opened in February 2008 but is accessible now.
